The 1950's in all it's glory

Not too long ago, I was at a themed party where everyone came dressed up as a character from the Jane Austen era, and we all ate "tea and crumpets" (not tea and strumpets as my sister used to say).  one of my friends mentioned that her favorite era was the Victorian one, and my first thought was "heck no, mine's the fifties!".  A friend later told me that usually those two eras don't appear in the same sentence, but regardless of this probably true fact, what I said still goes. Apparently, not many people my age share my views on this, but I would still like to shoot out a post in honor of the fifties...

The music...so sweet and simple, my favorite being a song by the times titled "So Much in Love"

(okay, this was '63, was it was 50's inspired)

50's styles...so cute

innocence...everyone was just so...innocent.  why can't we go back to a purer way of life??

typewriters...I don't know if these are really 50's, but I connect the two in my mind

drive in movies...so cute!

50's diners...i want to work at one of these...cool cars, roller blade waitresses, jukeboxes

sock-hops...i want to go to one of these

I couldn't find a good picture, but this is cute too :)

And last, but definitely not least, some of the beautiful faces of the fifties...

I hope you at least have a slight intrest in the ffties, and if not...I tried!

Yes, celebrities need their special toilet paper...

I am siting here reveling in the pure strangeness of celebrities right now, wondering how someone could actually stock up his numerous homes with black toilet paper costing right around $15.00 a roll.  Yes, I do love watching Simon Cowell spew his ridiculousness on Britain's Got Talent, and usually I don't keep up on celebrity gossip (to many "shocking" scandals, which are total baloney) but this cracked me up so much I had to share it with all of you. In the words of some Simon Cowell cynic "let’s hope his butt is softer and cleaner than a baby’s bottom for that price!"

scatterbrained Sundays...

Just a random post full of random stuff...

this past month or so I've decided I do like country music after all...I always thought it was kind of stupid and not worth my time, but recently I've taken to listening to it while I do the dishes...it's easy to listen to and is usually pretty sweet.  One of my new favorites is called "Give me that Girl" adn it's basically about how he loves his girl even when she's not all "gussied up" :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40tNQRsIdvI

Still missing Val and Sherri, hoping that Tristan and Gladis aren't the next ones gone

Lovin' polyvore...basically, you take all your dream clothes/people/whatever and make a little collage thing. (see attached link for my favorite so far...) http://www.polyvore.com/hooray_for_fall/set?id=37354333

sittin' here wondering WHO PUT ALL THE TOOTHPASTE ON THE TOILET SEAT?!?
...I'm going to take an educated guess and say my little three-year-old brother...
Why?
a) because he doesn't like brushing his teeth and this way he doesn't have to tonight
b) he's a boy
c) he's three
d) did I mentiong he's a three-year-old boy???
than again, my then 19 year-old sister did put a peach pit down the toilet just to see what would happen, so you never know...

I warned you this would be random!

October Baby

Just went to go see it last night...overall I thought it was quite good, though at times I wanted to yell at the girl a little bit...I think I'm just not the most patient of people :)

A story of forgiveness and love while bringing in the matter of abortion...all WITHOUT BEING PREACHY!! (this makes me happy because even though I'm a faithful Catholic it's always hard for me to sit through one of those in your face holy films...)

One thing that really stuck out to me: at one point, the main girl is talking to a nurse about a failed abortion, and the nurse mentions how she was always told that the baby wasn't a baby, but just a blob of tissue, but when she saw that baby come out "I didn't see no tissue. I just saw the face of a child".  **yes, that was a little vague, but I'm trying not to give away anything to important...

Overall, it was a really a good movie (and they stuck in an itty-bitty-bit  of romance for all you people that need a guy in your movies) and I highly suggest GO SEE IT!  The more  money this movie makes in theatres, the more good movies will come out this year.

Oh yes, and the person behind us started to have a seizure in the middle of the film...she was okay, but it certainly added some drama to the night...

So Happy

Some things that have made me smile this past week-ish...hope they do the same for you!
.Seeing one of my great friends entering the Catholic Church this Easter vigil had me grinning like an idiot :)

.The Gallaher Girls series...just some cute distraction from work and work and work!  Four girls attending a spy academy together...four cute, light books to get you through a stressful week.

Sweet and cheesy...perfect for de-stressing

.Tristan MacManus on DWTS...it's rock week on Dancing with the Stars and Tristan goes into his dance wearing a punk outfit...with coattails!

I can't find a picture of it, but this seems to be his official DWTS pic for this year...

.Dreaming of a pipe like Gandalf's...it's just that cool :)

one can always dream... :)

.Taylor Swift...I'm not always a big fan of her music, but these past couple weeks I've been listening to her new-ish CC Speak now, and am being pleasantly surprised...

go get it out from your library...it's worth hearing!

. DISCO!  So much fun :)

yes, that IS a supremely awesome disco ball snitch...I love google images :)

Richard Armitage

Yes, he gets his own post...that's how spectacular he is :P

Actually, I've sort of given him up for Holy week, but a post is on the way right after Easter :)

Stay tuned!

Easte triduum and the Lord of the Rings

So, Now that the Easter Triduum has officially started, I felt I should post on it.  We are blessed to live about 10 minutes away from a great charismatic parish which boasts a great community, full of strong faithful Catholics, a priest who's goal in life is to spread the news of "a savior who loves to save" (not to mention he's a great homilist, he rides a Harley, and is a black belt in karate).  And now you're wondering where the Lord of the Rings comes in...?

In our family, we always had a tradition of watching the series right around Easter time...this year we saw the first on Wednesday of Holy week, we're seeing The two Towers tonight (Holy Thursday), leaving Good Friday open to watch the Passion (a great movie, but probably not the best for little kids) and triumphantly finishing with the Return of the King on Holy Saturday.

Why?  My dad always saw these movies as the reincarnation of Easter because throughout the first two (and most of the third) movie, Frodo is carrying the ring, like Christ carried his cross and OUR SINS.  Frodo chose to carry the ring to save his people, the way Christ chose to carry our faults and sins to save US.  Thought the first two movies are masterfully done, there ends leave you wanting for more, waiting for the joyful end. The Return of the King (Yup...that would be Jesus in our case) brings a new world full of hope and a new beginning...see where I'm going with this?

Basically, I want to wish you all a lovely Easter, and give you an excuse to go on a LOTR binge...enjoy!

I LOVE PARIS!

not that I've ever been there...really, I just watched the movie Gigi and have decided I love it :P
For all you people out there who haven't watched this movie, I suggest you do so at once!

The storyline is as follows: young girl grows up and her "big older brother" type friend suddenly realizes...wow!!!  Actually, there's more to the plot than that, but that's about the gist of it.  The movie does have an older theme going on, but they handle it so well that this was the first time I picked up on it.  they handle her growing up so well!! She goes from a little schoolgirl, to...this!
so pretty :P

Yes, it is an older movie, and a musical, but they pull it off with only a few awkward jazz-hand-esqe poses, and over all it's stupendous.

Go get it out at your library today!
